Description
Seawall Beach in Maine is the setting for this scene of a young pregnant woman in a blue dress and crocheted shawl asleep on the sand. The woman is the artist’s wife in her first of 27 years of modeling for him. In the far distance we see the shape of one of the many schooners that still ply the waters of the Maine coast in this area, beloved by natives and visitors alike. This painting was one of Christopher Cart’s many romantic renderings of his wife and family in the great Maine outdoors.
