Illustration

· book covers ·

I began illustrating books and magazines by accident, back in the late 80’s of the last century.

In my late 20’s I was selling paintings at the Pike Place Market in Seattle and a best selling author came by, bought two large paintings and then asked I would be interested in illustrating his next book.

Since the 90’s I have created illustrations for many national and regional publications  William Morrow, Hearst Books, Penguin Random House, Greenwillow Books, Harper Collins, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, DownEast Books, Shooting Sportsman magazine, Institute for Global Ethics, and many more.

My illustration career began back in the late 80’s.  I kind of fell into my first projects.  I was selling watercolors  at the Pike Place Market in Seattle and a best selling cookbook author came by, bought two large paintings and then asked I would be interested in illustrating his next book.  I then went on to illustrated 6 of his national best selling Frugal Gourmet cookbooks.

Since then I have illustrated kid’s books. magazines, book covers.  Hundreds of things.

Illustration is great training ground.  Projects are dumped in your lap presenting you with things you need to draw and paint that you might never have attempted.

It gets you out of that fragile comfort zone that can tie you up in an easy little bowed box of creativity.  But if you illustrate books and magazines for a while, you find, after a bit, you can paint anything you want.  It definitely stretches you.
