Making black marks on white paper, is like a melody on a flute, clear, crisp, lovely—but sour if a note is off.
These are drawings on paper and drawings on my iPad. I go back and forth—each has things that I love. Ultimately, though drawing paper wins out.
To draw on paper with a fine ink pen, you have to be really present, really there in head and hand. I have to be solidly in the zone of each line, what it needs to feel like.
Also, you have to draw every day or else you are out of shape. Drawing is a physical skill, and like anything physical if you are not in practice your drawing will look flabby or lazy.
Draw, draw, draw—the best advice ever given me.
